Reflection 7: Long Distance Learning (online)

Long Distance Learning (Online)

Firstly, Ms. Nabila started off something differently in class today. She wanted us to write a short paragraph of letter to ourself and to one of the people we love in our life. It was a rainy morning and most of us went into kind of a emo mode at that time. Life is short. We never know what might comes next. Therefore, I'm always appreciated what I have in my life. I always cherish the time I spend with my family and friends because I do not want to feel regretful in the future. After writing those letters, we gave each other hugs and words of encouragement.

Alright, Ms. Nabila taught us about long distance learning in this week's lecture. Distance learning, also called as distance education, is known as a method od studying over the Internet. Students will not have to attend classes in school or any educational institutions. According to Durden (2001), he said that 'Long Distance Learning' are not affirm as individuals. Also, he stated that disenfranchised students will have to go through a hard time adapting compared with their peers. Therefore, long distance learning disallow students to become or even grow into their own person effectively

During the lesson, some students mentioned that long distance learning might affect students in having less engagement, interest as well as motivation. Most of us think and agree that a face to face and in class learning basis is the correct and better learning situation. Next, there are five different types of distance learning.
  • Print Courses - correspondence
  • Tape / Audio Cassettes / VCR tapes
  • Multimedia - Internet (online)
  • Audio & Video Conferencing
  • Social or learning platform [imitate social media]
However, there are some pros and cons of long distance learning. Below are the support for these.

Advantages:
  1. People can have the access to learn easily online.
  2. Greater flexibility of location and time schedule
  3. Lower cost needed
Disadvantages:
  1. Lack of social interaction
  2. It is not ideal for all learners as different individual has different learning styles
  3. Adaptability to new technologies required

Before ending the lesson, Ms. Nabila introduces us something fabulous which is coursera.

Coursera is an website which provides hundreds of Specialisations and courses in Business, Personal Development, Social Sciences, Language Learning and more. It is an website which provides free courses online and you can get a certificate after you completed the course. How fantastic it is right! After the lecture, I immediate sign up and register some of the courses from coursera as well to enhance in my learning knowledge. One of the course I signed up for is a foreign languge which I wanted to learn for a long time. I am so excited and looking forward for the class. Lastly, I would like to appreciate Ms. Nabila for introducing this website to all of us. Thank you so much! 😍
